Enex Technologies Targets Tenfold Growth in Data Center Business by 2031

Enex Technologies plans to increase its data center business tenfold over the next five years, targeting growth in cooling and heat management solutions for digital infrastructure. The Italian refrigeration and HVAC company reports annual turnover exceeding €200 million (approximately $230 million) and operates 12 production sites across four EU countries. Data centers currently account for 10% of its total turnover.

The company is expanding its portfolio of natural refrigerant technologies, with a roadmap targeting one new product introduction per month. For data centers and process applications, developments include a V-shaped dry cooler, optimized flat dry coolers and patented ice protection solutions designed to enable the use of pure water in finned tube coils. Further glycol-free solutions are planned for 2027. According to Enex, dry coolers can reduce water consumption by 60% to more than 90% compared with traditional systems.

In commercial refrigeration, the RENO CO2 Monoblock combines the refrigeration unit and gas cooler in a single configuration, with a 140-bar (approximately 2,031 psi) pressure option included in the 2026 program. Industrial developments include the factory-assembled MEGA ammonia chiller for outdoor installation, expanded CO2 ranges and NH3/CO2 cascade systems. The Everest R290 heat pump platform is being developed with modular configurations and hydronic integration, while R600a joins CO2, ammonia, propane and water in the company’s natural refrigerant portfolio.

Enex Technologies is also developing water-to-water booster heat pumps for high-temperature process heating and waste heat recovery. In hydrogen applications, the company is involved in three pilot projects, two in Italy and one in Spain, using technologies including dry coolers and CO2 blast chillers.

The data center strategy builds on the experience of subsidiary Emicon, which has worked in precision air conditioning for telecommunications since the 1980s. Enex cites European Union forecasts indicating that European data center capacity will triple within five to seven years.

In April 2027, Enex Technologies plans to organize an event in Italy’s Treviso area to mark 400 years of cumulative industrial history across its companies. The initiative will bring together industry representatives, institutions, universities and suppliers to support collaboration within the regional refrigeration and heating supply chain.
