TEKO Unveils New Business Unit for R744 Heat Pumps and Chillers

TEKO, a leading German manufacturer of CO2 (R744) refrigeration systems, has announced the creation of a new business unit dedicated to commercial and industrial R744 heat pumps and chillers. This strategic expansion addresses the growing demand for natural refrigerant solutions in the industry.

Announced by Nadine Neuberger, Management Assistant and Head of Marketing at TEKO, during the ATMOsphere Europe Summit 2024 in Prague, the initiative underscores TEKO's commitment to increasing the presence of natural refrigerants in cooling and heating applications. "There is a huge opportunity, and we have to serve it," Neuberger stated.

The move into heat pumps and chillers follows the acquisition of Vitalis by TEKO’s parent company, the KKVB Group. Vitalis, a Canada-based company, brings extensive expertise with its COOLSHIFT brand of CO2 heat pumps and chillers, which will now be available in Europe. Meanwhile, TEKO's CO2 products will reach the North American market through Vitalis.

Highlighting the technical capabilities, the COOLSHIFT product line includes CO2 heat pumps with capacities from 100kW to 3MW, suitable for applications like district energy and food manufacturing. TEKO is already implementing these technologies, including a 1.5MW installation at the University of British Columbia's Okanagan Campus.

Roman Weingart, Manager of the Business Unit Heating and Cooling, discussed several installations, such as a 77kW water-to-water heat pump in Austria and a 200kW chiller at an aluminum plant in Iceland. These projects showcase TEKO's innovative solutions in advancing energy efficiency.

TEKO's focus on natural refrigerants aligns with the industry's sustainability goals, paving the way for the future of energy-efficient cooling and heating solutions.
