Danfoss launches AXV pressure regulator for cooling applications

Danfoss has introduced AXV, a mechanical pressure regulator for hot gas bypass and liquid expansion applications in cooling and refrigeration systems. The company said the valve is designed to support installation simplicity, reliability and lower applied cost in applications including air driers, water chillers, ice cream machines and frozen beverage dispensers.

The AXV platform includes two variants. AXV-H is intended for hot gas bypass applications and is installed between the high- and low-pressure sides to maintain compressor suction pressure by injecting hot gas. Danfoss said it is designed to replace TUH and TCHE hot gas bypass valves and can cover up to 20% higher capacity within the same application range. AXV-I is designed for liquid injection based on evaporation pressure and opens proportionally when evaporation pressure drops to maintain the defined setpoint.

According to Danfoss, AXV is built on a stainless-steel platform with laser-welded double diaphragm technology and a 45 mm (approx. 1.77 in) diaphragm. The company listed features including no bulb and capillary tube, internal pressure equalization, low internal friction, reduced pressure drop to open the valve, and mechanical spring adjustment from 1 to 7 bar (approx. 14.5 to 101.5 psi), or 1 to 11 bar (approx. 14.5 to 159.5 psi) with R410A. Maximum working pressure is 34 bar / 493 psi for low and medium pressure and 49 bar / 710 psi for high pressure, with a media temperature range from -40°C to 140°C (-40°F to 284°F). The valve is compatible with A1, A2L and A3 refrigerants, except R744 and R717, and is compliant with cULus (UL207), CE and Gost.

Danfoss said AXV uses bi-metal connectors for brazing and does not require external sensing elements. The company added that the valve has undergone MOPD, lifetime and fatigue, external leakage, capacity validation, reliability and salt spray testing. Production has been established on a dedicated European manufacturing line, and Danfoss said AXV will support portfolio migration by the end of 2026.
