Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US adds 5-ton H2i outdoor unit

Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US LLC (METUS) has launched a single-phase SMART MULTI 5-ton Hyper-Heating INVERTER (H2i) outdoor unit, expanding its US lineup with a new option for colder-climate projects. The company said the addition completes its SMART MULTI range and gives engineers, contractors and building owners more right-sized choices across a broader range of applications.

According to METUS, the new MXZ-SM unit delivers 100% heating capacity at 5 degrees F and 80% heating capacity at -13 degrees F, with a heating thermal lockout at -24 degrees F. The company said flash injection technology is designed to improve compressor performance in cold temperatures. METUS already offers a 5-ton standard model.

The outdoor unit uses a low-GWP refrigerant and includes built-in safety features, including shut-off valves, to meet A2L and UL requirements. It supports multi-zone configurations and can connect with M- and P-Series indoor units, up to eight units, as well as CITY MULTI indoor units, up to 12 units. METUS said the system supports a connected capacity range of 50% to 130%.

The unit also includes expanded dipswitch configuration options and a USB recorder that can store up to two weeks of operational data for troubleshooting. METUS said all outdoor units come with factory-installed Seacoast Protection, including a coated base panel and a Blue Fin-coated outdoor heat exchanger. The anti-corrosion treatment is rated for 2,000 hours under ASTM B117 standards.

METUS said all system combinations are ENERGY STAR Cold Climate and NEEP certified, while select combinations also meet ENERGY STAR requirements. “Contractors are looking for HVAC solutions they can trust from design through long-term operation,” said Brinnon Williams, Vice President of Residential Business, METUS. “The addition of a 5-ton H2i outdoor unit to the SMART MULTI platform reinforces our focus on flexibility, reliability, and real world performance.”
