Thermo King Introduce New Sustainable Container Refrigeration Solutions

Thermo King Introduce New Sustainable Container Refrigeration Solutions

Thermo King, a brand of Trane Technologies, has introduced the new Magnum Eco refrigeration unit, developed to deliver energy-efficient and reliable performance for global shipping lines. The unit builds on the Magnum Plus platform and incorporates technical upgrades to support sustainable and cost-effective operations.

The Magnum Eco features a next-generation evaporator, enhanced compressor, and an electronic expansion valve. These improvements enable lower energy consumption, reduced maintenance needs, and increased system efficiency. The unit is designed to comply with current and upcoming refrigerant regulations and is compatible with low-global-warming-potential refrigerants such as R-1234yf.

Thermo King highlights that the Magnum Eco ensures marine-grade durability, precise temperature control, and integration with controlled atmosphere technology. These capabilities are intended to safeguard cargo quality while supporting energy optimization and regulatory compliance.

The launch also marks the first joint product offering by Thermo King and Klinge, following Trane Technologies’ acquisition of Klinge in 2024. Klinge manufactures specialised ISO refrigerated containers and provides containerized refrigeration solutions for applications including pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, electronics, military use, chemical and tank containers, and gas and oil sectors.

In 2025, Thermo King is also commemorating the 60th anniversary of its genset units, with over 100,000 units produced to date for powering refrigerated containers around the world.

“Sustainability, safety and energy efficiency are driving change in the industry, as shipping lines look for ways to optimise operations, manage costs, and reduce environmental impact while protecting cargo quality,” said Claudio Zanframundo, President Thermo King EMEA Truck, Trailer, Bus and Global Marine, Rail, Air.
