Carrier has launched the WeatherFlex 50FC R-454C rooftop unit for commercial applications from 20 to 50 kW (approx. 68,200 to 170,600 BTU/h), designed to help customers prepare for the next phase of Europe’s F-Gas transition. The unit uses R-454C, an A2L-classified refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) below 150.
European F-Gas requirements are expected to tighten from 2027, with certain rooftop applications anticipated to require refrigerants with a GWP below 150. Carrier developed the WeatherFlex 50FC for both new-build and retrofit projects.
The unit features factory-programmed controls and configurable options including free cooling, heat recovery, variable ventilation and extended airflow. Variable-speed scroll compressors and an optimised system design are intended to improve seasonal efficiency, including SEER and SCOP, while the unit supports operation from -18°C (-0.4°F) to +50°C (122°F).
Integrated smart controls provide multi-zone management and energy metering. Connectivity through Carrier’s Abound HVAC platform gives building operators visibility of system performance to support operational decisions.
