Danfoss, a global leader in climate and energy solutions, has joined forces with Enersponse, a leading distributed energy resource (DER) management company based in California, to introduce industry-leading services to American supermarkets.
The goal of this collaboration is to improve the energy flexibility of HVAC and refrigeration systems by benefiting the food retail sector through an Automated Demand Response (Auto-DR) solution.
The food retail industry is being transformed through digitalization, and sustainability is a key part of this journey. To support the transition to a green grid, Danfoss and Enersponse will collaborate to provide food retailers with grid stability while automatically realizing financial benefits through Auto-DR. By reducing energy consumption when demand for electricity exceeds supply, Auto-DR helps ensure constant lighting and food freshness, while reducing energy consumption during peak periods that often correlate with periods of high emissions.
Enersponse’s DERMS platform will be seamlessly integrated into Danfoss Alsense, a cloud-based Internet of Things (IoT)-based food retail solution that monitors the performance of refrigeration assets, allowing retail managers to easily respond to alarms, provide 24/7 food condition monitoring and reduce Energy consumption. consumption.
“We maintain an unwavering commitment to finding leading building management partners to enhance the impact of our energy initiatives,” explained James McPhail, visionary CEO and founder of Enersponse. “As we are at the forefront of our industry with unrivaled technology, partnering with a company like Danfoss was an obvious choice. This partnership marks an important milestone for both organizations, bringing not only excitement but also significant benefits to their customers, such as customized demand response activities. , earning passive income while maintaining safety standards to ensure perishable foods remain within established safe temperature zones, and many other benefits.”
“We are thrilled to be working with Enersponse to expand our offerings to food retail customers in the US,” says Nathalie Schnippering, Head of Digital Services at Danfoss. “Through digital innovation, we can collect supermarket data and gain the information needed to optimize energy use, automate corrective actions and prevent energy peaks and waste.”
Electricity consumption varies throughout the day and year. Thus, uncontrolled consumption on the demand side often leads to critical network congestion during peak hours. Demand flexibility and energy efficiency measures shift energy consumption to times when demand is lower. This proactive Smart Demand Response approach from Danfoss and Enersponse allows supermarkets to reduce energy costs by reducing cooling loads during peak hours.
According to the International Energy Agency, Smart Demand Response could provide 185 gigawatts (GW) of system flexibility, equivalent to the currently installed electricity capacity of Australia and Italy combined.
