UPS Strengthens Healthcare Logistics with Frigo-Trans Acquisition

UPS Strengthens Healthcare Logistics with Frigo-Trans Acquisition

UPS has announced an agreement to acquire Frigo-Trans and its sister company BPL, leading healthcare logistics providers based in Germany. This acquisition will enhance UPS’s capabilities in Europe, catering to UPS Healthcare customers with growing demands for temperature-sensitive and time-critical logistics.

“The fast-paced innovation in the pharmaceutical industry is creating the need to have more integrated cold and frozen supply chains,” said Kate Gutmann, UPS EVP and President of International, Healthcare and Supply Chain Solutions. “Frigo-Trans will help deepen our portfolio of solutions for our customers and accelerate our journey to become the number one complex healthcare logistics provider in the world addressing their needs.”

Frigo-Trans operates a network of temperature-controlled warehouses covering six temperature zones, from cryopreservation (-196°C) to ambient (+15° to +25°C). The acquisition includes their Pan-European cold chain transportation and time-critical freight forwarding capabilities.

The transaction is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2025, pending regulatory reviews and approvals. Transaction details have not been disclosed.

Case Study – Effect of Louvers or diffusers on air flow distribution and cooling time on a meat log during Chill cycle

By Kushal Aurangabadkar An experimental analysis was conducted on a cooler space measuring 3.66 m × 6.096 m (12.0 ft × 20.0 ft), equipped with an ammonia refrigeration coil, five 30 cm (12 in.) fans, and five diffusers. The study measured airflow patterns, cooling rates, and heat transfer efficiency in meat storage by testing two configurations:

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for Modular Refrigeration Systems in Life Sciences Distribution Centers

by Ramez Naguib, P.E. Introduction Life sciences distribution centers are under immense pressure to deliver consistent temperature control, comply with increasingly stringent regulations, and optimize operational efficiency. Traditional built-up refrigeration systems often prove cumbersome, costly, and slow to implement. In contrast, modular, factory-assembled refrigeration systems have emerged as a compelling alternative. Drawing on lessons from
