UNE, the Spanish Association for Standardization, announced the publication of UNE 100012:2026, Hygienization of Air-Conditioning Systems, replacing the 2005 edition and defining requirements for evaluating and hygienizing ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
The revised standard specifies the competencies required from organizations carrying out each stage of the hygienization process. These requirements cover technical capabilities, professional experience and procedures, as well as the qualifications expected from technical personnel involved in the work.
UNE 100012:2026 was developed within UNE’s Air Conditioning Committee, CTN-UNE 100, whose secretariat is held by the Spanish Association of Air Conditioning Equipment Manufacturers, AFEC. The work was carried out specifically by Working Group 10 on indoor environmental quality, with participation from sector organizations including ATECYR, ANECPLA, AMBISALUD, COAM, Saint-Gobain, SODECA and TDM, with support from EUROFINS.
The revision was coordinated with the update of UNE 171330 on indoor environmental quality. That standard includes a technical procedural section that required harmonization with UNE 100012, linking the two documents in areas related to indoor environmental assessment and hygiene procedures.
The final draft was reviewed and approved by the plenary of CTN-UNE 100, which includes more than 50 representatives from laboratories, associations, companies and public-sector bodies. The new edition establishes an updated framework for identifying the capabilities and procedures required from organizations and personnel responsible for HVAC system hygienization.
