A coalition of 50 companies, industry associations and civil society organisations has called on EU Member States to complete the transposition of ETS2 and implement the system in 2028 without further delay. Signatories include Danfoss, Clivet, Grundfos, Ochsner, the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA), European Heating Industry (EHI), Euroheat & Power and Assoclima.

In a joint letter dated 6 October 2026, the organisations said ETS2 and its revenues, including the Social Climate Fund (SCF), are essential to accelerating decarbonisation in road transport and buildings. They also linked the framework to increased electrification and energy efficiency and demand for clean technologies across the EU.

The signatories called for ETS2 to be implemented as planned, with any further reform deferred until the scheduled review in 2029. They said governments should use the remaining period before launch to adopt Social Climate Plans, deploy the Social Climate Fund and make use of the European Investment Bank’s Frontloading Facility.

The coalition also urged Member States to use ETS2 revenues to shield consumers and accelerate the deployment of energy efficiency measures, clean heat, and sustainable transport technologies and infrastructure. It said the Frontloading Facility should be used to leverage private investment in clean technologies.

The European ETS2 Action Alliance describes itself as a cross-sectoral platform bringing together stakeholders working on climate, energy, road transport and buildings, including NGOs, civil society, industry representatives, social partners and trade organisations.

Ammonia Refrigeration Evolves Amid Growing Competition

By: Ilana Koegelenberg   Ammonia (NH3/ R717) refrigeration continues to dominate industrial applications across the United States and European Union, but the sector is undergoing significant transformation as operators balance traditional advantages with evolving safety requirements, workforce challenges, and competition from alternative refrigerants. While ammonia maintains its stronghold in large-scale facilities, new technologies and regulatory
