Eurovent Certification proposes overhaul of heat exchanger certification

Eurovent Certification has proposed major revisions to its Heat Exchanger certification programme, including separate pathways for CO2 and HFC/HFO products and a new scheme for dry coolers and adiabatic dry coolers developed with the US-based Cooling Technology Institute (CTI). The proposals will be discussed with HVACR industry stakeholders at two hybrid kick-off events in France on 10 November 2026.

The revamped Heat Exchanger programme would focus on commercial refrigeration and introduce two sub-programmes: CO2 heat exchangers, including DX air coolers and gas coolers, and HFC/HFO heat exchangers, including DX air coolers and air-cooled condensers. Other proposed changes include revised surveillance-testing frequency, audits designed to complement rather than duplicate ISO 9001, annual factory audits and additional periodic gas-cooler test conditions.

A separate certification programme is proposed for dry coolers and adiabatic dry coolers used in industrial and process applications, including data centres. Developed with CTI, it would align performance testing with CTI STD-201 and associated Acceptance Test Codes (ATC), while incorporating Eurovent Certification’s governance model, annual factory audits and market surveillance activities.

The dry and adiabatic cooler programme would replace the current “certify-all” principle with a product-line certification approach. Proposed testing options include approved participant laboratories and field testing supervised by an independent licensed agency. A fast-track pathway is also proposed for existing Eurovent-certified dry cooler ranges supported by valid EN test reports.

Eurovent Certification will present the proposals during two hybrid events at the Hilton Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport on 10 November. The Commercial Refrigeration Heat Exchangers Certification Programme session will run from 10:00 to 13:00 Paris time, followed by the Eurovent Certification-CTI Dry & Adiabatic Certification Programme session from 14:00 to 17:30. Both events will be held in English and can also be attended online.
