Swedish heat pump manufacturer Qvantum has launched the QA50, a 50 kW (approx. 170,600 BTU/h) air-to-water heat pump designed for multi-residential and light commercial developments in the UK. The unit can be paired with the Qvantum QG water-to-water apartment heat pump to provide heating, hot water and cooling through low-temperature ambient loop networks at building and apartment level.
The QA50 is designed primarily for ambient heat loop systems, which typically operate between 10°C and 30°C (50°F and 86°F). It has an operating range of -25°C to +43°C (-13°F to 109°F) and uses the natural refrigerant R290. Its compact footprint and modular configuration allow multiple units to be combined to meet different project requirements, including retrofit and new-build installations.
The heat pump can also operate as a standalone heating and cooling system in light commercial buildings, including offices, leisure facilities and mixed-use developments. Its modular design allows capacity to be scaled according to building requirements.
The QA50 uses the QC PRO controller for centralised management of multi-unit installations, integrating heating, cooling, hot water and other system components. Additional features include remote connectivity and diagnostics through Q Service, over-the-air software updates and built-in readiness for flexible electricity tariffs.
“The QA50 marks another important milestone in Qvantum’s mission to decarbonise urban homes,” said Jack Kerr, Product Manager, Qvantum UK. “As ambient heat loops become increasingly attractive for providing sustainable and efficient energy systems, developers need the tools and equipment to ensure these systems are viable for as many developments as possible. Following the launch of the Qvantum QG earlier this year, the addition of the QA50 enables any multi-occupancy building to benefit from a low-temperature network, without any loss of flexibility, performance, efficiency or apartment-level control.”
