Americold Opens Global Innovation Center to Manage Automated Facilities

Americold Realty Trust has opened a Global Innovation Center at its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, and appointed Anita Nanda as Chief Technology & Solutions Officer. The center integrates technology, automation, data analytics and operational expertise to support the company’s temperature-controlled logistics operations and customer solutions.

The facility includes a Global Operations Command Center that provides 24-hour centralized oversight of Americold’s automated facilities worldwide. The system enables real-time operational optimization, faster problem-solving and coordinated technical support without duplicating specialized monitoring capabilities at individual sites.

According to Americold, the centralized approach is designed to improve operational resilience, redundancy and efficiency. The company also sees potential to extend these capabilities to its conventional facility network.

Anita Nanda will lead Americold’s global Technology and Solutions organization, covering enterprise technology, automation, cybersecurity, business solutions, data analytics and digital transformation. Nanda joined Americold in 2022 and most recently served as Senior Vice President, Global Development and Automation. She has more than 20 years of experience in technology, engineering, automation and operations.

“The Global Operations Command Center gives us a fundamentally different way to manage and optimize our automated network,” said Rob Chambers, Chief Executive Officer of Americold. “By centralizing oversight and specialized expertise, we can respond faster, continuously optimize performance and more efficiently support our automated facilities around the world.”

The Global Innovation Center is currently accessible to Americold employees, with customer visits expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027.

Case Study – Effect of Louvers or diffusers on air flow distribution and cooling time on a meat log during Chill cycle

By Kushal Aurangabadkar An experimental analysis was conducted on a cooler space measuring 3.66 m × 6.096 m (12.0 ft × 20.0 ft), equipped with an ammonia refrigeration coil, five 30 cm (12 in.) fans, and five diffusers. The study measured airflow patterns, cooling rates, and heat transfer efficiency in meat storage by testing two configurations:

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for Modular Refrigeration Systems in Life Sciences Distribution Centers

by Ramez Naguib, P.E. Introduction Life sciences distribution centers are under immense pressure to deliver consistent temperature control, comply with increasingly stringent regulations, and optimize operational efficiency. Traditional built-up refrigeration systems often prove cumbersome, costly, and slow to implement. In contrast, modular, factory-assembled refrigeration systems have emerged as a compelling alternative. Drawing on lessons from
