Copeland has expanded its manufacturing capabilities in Atit, India, becoming the first company to manufacture scroll compressors in the country. Production began in December 2025, supporting refrigeration and HVACR applications across residential, commercial and cold chain sectors.
The expansion is part of Copeland’s ₹500 crore (approximately USD 56 million) investment initiative announced in 2024, which also includes enhanced engineering and innovation capabilities in Pune.
The locally manufactured scroll compressor portfolio includes fixed- and variable-speed solutions. According to Copeland, local production is intended to reduce lead times, increase flexibility and enable greater customization to meet customer requirements.
“India is an important strategic market for Copeland, with a strong economy and continued growth in the HVACR market,” said Ross B. Shuster, Copeland’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our ₹500 crore investment into our India operations reflects our commitment to our local customers, building on the expertise, talent and capabilities we have in the country.”
Jagadish Keswani, President, India, Middle East & Africa for Copeland, said the investment supports the “Make in India” initiative and combines engineering capabilities in Pune with expanded manufacturing in Atit to develop solutions for domestic and international markets.
Copeland plans to showcase its locally manufactured scroll compressors at RefCold India in November 2026, alongside its cold chain technologies and solutions.
