Johnson Controls to open Pennsylvania data center training institute

Johnson Controls announced plans to launch a dedicated data center training institute at its Advanced Development and Engineering Center (JADEC) in Pennsylvania. Expected to open in early 2027, the institute will provide hands-on training for service technicians working with high-density data centers.

The company said the program is designed to strengthen service field expertise as customers deploy and operate mission-critical data center systems. Johnson Controls said the institute will support training on real-world equipment and operating conditions.

JADEC spans seven acres and includes more than 20 specialized labs, supporting over 1,000 test runs each month under real-world operating conditions. By placing the institute within JADEC, Johnson Controls said dedicated data center technicians will train alongside ongoing product development.

The program will cover advanced thermal management technologies used in high-density data centers, including YORK YVAM air-cooled chillers and Silent-Aire coolant distribution units (CDUs), which remove heat directly from servers. Johnson Controls said these technologies can help reduce non-IT energy use by up to 50% and significantly reduce or eliminate on-site cooling-related water use.

Training will also include commissioning, maintenance and repair of equipment for mission-critical environments. The program will provide career pathways for existing employees, new hires and HVAC professionals moving into data center roles.
