The Kyrgyz Republic’s National Ozone Unit has developed practical guidance to help public authorities incorporate energy efficiency, lifecycle costs and refrigerant climate impact into the procurement of refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment. The initiative supports the country’s efforts to implement the Kigali Amendment.
According to the guidance, 90–95% of the total cost of cooling equipment arises during its operating life. This highlights the importance of considering energy consumption, maintenance and servicing costs alongside the initial purchase price.
In 2026, the Kyrgyz Republic assessed its national procurement framework to identify opportunities for integrating these criteria into procurement regulations.
The initiative was featured in UNEP OzonAction’s “10 Years, 10 Perspectives” series, marking the 10th anniversary of the Kigali Amendment and highlighting national approaches to reducing the climate impact of refrigerants.
