Qatar is examining lower-global-warming-potential (GWP) cooling technologies suitable for high-ambient-temperature conditions as part of its efforts to implement the Kigali Amendment. The country is focusing on identifying alternatives that can operate safely, efficiently and reliably under extreme climatic conditions.
In November 2025, Qatar’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change convened a technical workshop bringing together representatives from government, industry, academia and technical experts. Participants examined suitable cooling alternatives and the challenges associated with their adoption.
The discussions also emphasized the importance of technician training and certification to support the safe and reliable introduction of new cooling technologies.
Alongside its technical initiatives, Qatar has expanded public awareness activities related to ozone and climate protection. To mark World Ozone Day 2025, the National Ozone Unit and Public Relations Department organized a children’s creativity competition, recognizing five winners and 20 outstanding submissions.
The campaign included awareness workshops at six schools, reaching more than 460 students, as well as a three-day public-awareness booth featuring student contributions and interactive activities. Qatar’s initiatives were highlighted in UNEP OzonAction’s “10 Years, 10 Perspectives” series marking the Kigali Amendment’s 10th anniversary.
