Bedrock Energy, a startup specializing in geothermal heating and cooling, has raised $12 million in Series A funding led by Titanium Ventures. Energy Impact Partners and Sustainable Future Ventures participated alongside existing investors, including Wireframe Ventures, Overture Ventures, Toba Capital, Elemental Impact, First Star Ventures, and Cantos. The funding will support technology development and expanded deployment in Colorado, Utah, and nearby states.
The company leverages expertise from the oil and gas sector to innovate geothermal heating and cooling systems. Its proprietary technologies include advanced subsurface thermal simulation and an intelligent platform for geothermal borefield construction. These innovations enable faster installations with higher accuracy and cost efficiencies for real estate developers and owners, ranging from single buildings to district systems serving multiple lots.
Bedrock aims to scale geothermal heating and cooling as a sustainable energy solution that reduces building energy costs, enhances resilience, and minimizes air pollution. According to the company, geothermal HVAC systems can cut energy bills by up to 50% while reducing carbon emissions and air pollutants significantly.
The Mountain West states are key to Bedrock’s 2025 expansion plans, following the completion of a geothermal project in Morgan County, Utah, and the development of a district geothermal system in Hayden, Colorado. Supported by state and local organizations, the Hayden project aims to supply clean energy to a new business park in a transitioning coal region.
Geothermal energy has the potential to significantly reduce power demand during extreme temperatures. Studies suggest that widespread adoption of geothermal heat pumps could avoid seven gigatons of carbon emissions by 2050 and reduce the need for extensive power grid expansion.
Bedrock’s approach aligns with broader electrification trends while addressing the need for energy demand management. By delivering scalable and efficient solutions, the company aims to position geothermal energy as a mainstream option for clean heating and cooling.
