On September 16 and 17, representatives from the Brazilian Association of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Ventilation, and Heating (ABRAVA) participated in two key events for the HVAC sector. These events, organized by Brazil’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA) in partnership with international organizations such as UNDP, UNIDO, and GIZ, focused on celebrating the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer and initiating discussions on the Kigali Amendment under the theme “Leveraging Actions for the Benefit of the Climate.”
The event on September 16 highlighted Brazil’s achievements in phasing out HCFCs (hydrochlorofluorocarbons) through the Brazilian HCFC Phase-Out Program (PBH). ABRAVA was honored for its contributions to the refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) sector, with the association’s executive president, Arnaldo Basile, receiving an award in recognition of their efforts. ABRAVA’s National Women’s Committee was also acknowledged for its contributions to the sector.
On September 17, discussions commenced at the Kigali Amendment Implementation Workshop, bringing together government, private sector, and civil society representatives to address the phased reduction of HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons) by 2045. ABRAVA’s Renato Cesquini, environmental director, emphasized the association’s commitment to supporting the amendment’s goals, noting that while challenges exist, they present significant opportunities for growth and innovation.
These events mark a crucial step toward Brazil’s compliance with the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, which aims to reduce global HFC consumption, thereby contributing to a 0.5-degree reduction in global warming. The collaboration of national and international bodies ensures that Brazil’s HVAC industry stays competitive and energy-efficient in the global market.
