UNEP OzonAction and its partners will host two flagship side events during the 37th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (MOP37), taking place in November 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya. The events will highlight collaborative efforts in sustainable cooling technologies and enforcement of ozone protection policies.
On 3 November, the session “Cold Chain Technologies in Hot Climates: From Storage to Transport” will focus on innovative solutions enhancing food security, energy efficiency, and environmental protection in high-temperature regions. The event will present insights from the latest UNEP–IIR technology briefs and feature discussions on national cold chain strategies, refrigerated transport, and walk-in cold rooms adapted to Article 5 countries.
The session is co-organized by UNEP OzonAction and the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR), and will be held at UNEP Headquarters, Room CR-14. Confirmed speakers include Jim Curlin (UNEP OzonAction), Souhir Al-Hammami and Yosr Allouche (IIR), Silvia Minetto (Italian National Research Council), Alan Foster (London South Bank University), and Sonja Wagner (UNEP OzonAction), with participation from a Government of India representative.
On 4 November, the second side event titled “Enforcement of the Montreal Protocol: From Policy to Actions to Combat Illegal Trade” will explore the translation of Montreal Protocol commitments into enforcement efforts. Topics include new tools, legal frameworks, and international operations aimed at combating illegal trade in controlled substances.
This session, organized by the Ozone Secretariat, the World Customs Organization (WCO), and UNEP OzonAction, will be held in Room CR11 at UNEP Headquarters. Speakers include Meg Seki (Ozone Secretariat), Patricia Mbote (UNEP Law Division), Anna Kobylecka (WCO), Pedro Alexandre Maia Ribeiro (EUROPOL), Jaak Feuggelen (OLAF), Clare Perry (EIA), and Yvonne Ewang-Sanvincenti (BRS Conventions Secretariat). The session will also launch the WCO Guidelines for Customs SOPs on ODS and HFCs and present legal support tools under the UNEP Montevideo Programme.
Both events are open to online participation and will include Q&A sessions.
