Solstice Advanced Materials and Chemours have announced separate intellectual property enforcement actions involving hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) technologies at Chillventa 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany. The actions involved court-issued injunctions against exhibitors over alleged patent infringement related to HFO manufacturing processes and refrigerant blends.
Solstice reported taking action against five exhibitors to enforce its European patents covering the manufacturing process of a certain HFO and the composition of a proprietary HFO blend. The company secured preliminary injunctions from the Regional Courts of Frankfurt and Nuremberg. Court orders were formally served by bailiffs during the exhibition, and enforcement measures included removing relevant marketing materials from certain booths under official search orders.
According to Solstice, affected exhibitors may appeal the preliminary injunctions at any time. The company also referred to its September 2026 statement outlining its intellectual property position regarding HFO technologies.
Chemours separately announced that local courts had issued injunctions against four companies concerning infringement of its intellectual property and patents covering select HFO refrigerant blends. The company said it is working with enforcement authorities worldwide and educating customers, vendors, and other stakeholders about patent-infringing products and the importance of purchasing genuine refrigerants.
“Innovation does not happen by accident; it is built on years of research, development, and investment,” said Joseph Martinko, President, Thermal & Specialized Solutions at Chemours. “Protecting intellectual property is essential to preserving incentives for innovation, advancing refrigerant technology, and supporting fair competition. Chemours will continue to take appropriate action to defend its intellectual property rights and protect the innovations that help our customers meet evolving industry needs.”
