UNEP OzonAction organized an international training workshop on “Good Servicing Practices for Cold Storage Applications and Safe Handling of Natural Refrigerants” in Guangzhou, China, from 4 to 7 November 2025. The event was held under Stage II of China’s HCFC Phase-out Management Plan (HPMP), supported by the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol.
The workshop was jointly conducted by the OzonAction Compliance Assistance Programme (CAP) for South Asia, in collaboration with the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center (FECO) of China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Chinese Association of Refrigeration (CAR). The training focused on best practices in servicing cold storage systems using natural refrigerants such as ammonia (NH3) and ammonia–carbon dioxide (NH3/CO2) cascade systems.
As part of China’s South-South cooperation efforts, 20 refrigeration technicians and trainers—19 men and 1 woman—from 13 countries across Asia, Africa, and the Pacific attended the workshop. Participating countries included Bangladesh, Bhutan, Botswana, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Iran, Maldives, Mongolia, Solomon Islands, Turkmenistan, Vanuatu, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Training sessions were delivered by faculty members from Anhui University of Applied Technology and Shunde Polytechnic University, as well as Mr. Cesar Luis dL. Lim, representing ASHRAE and Kelvin Design & Engineering Company. Practical demonstrations took place at the Shunde Polytechnic training centre, with participants receiving certificates upon completion.
UNEP OzonAction acknowledged the support of the Multilateral Fund and the Government of China, expressing hope that the training would help countries align with the Kigali Amendment and promote the adoption of natural refrigerants in refrigeration servicing.
