MHI Thermal Systems Expands ETI-W Heat Pump Sales to Overseas Markets

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems (MHI Thermal Systems) is expanding sales of its ETI-W series heat recovery water-to-water centrifugal heat pump to overseas markets starting October 2026. First launched in Japan in 2025, the series uses low-temperature waste heat to produce hot water for industrial processes and building applications.

The ETI-W delivers hot water at temperatures up to 90°C (194°F), with a maximum heating capacity of 640 kW (approximately 2.18 million BTU/h). It recovers low-temperature waste heat from factory production processes and converts it into high-temperature water, addressing applications traditionally served by boilers and similar equipment.

The heat pump uses centrifugal compressor technology adapted for high compression ratios and the refrigerant HFO-1233zd(E), which has low global warming potential. It achieves a heating coefficient of performance (COP) of 4.01 when supplying water at up to 90°C (194°F). An integrated inverter and optimized heat exchanger design support heating capacity within a compact package.

MHI Thermal Systems is targeting process applications in electronics, automotive, food, chemical and pharmaceutical factories, along with heating and hot water supply in commercial and accommodation facilities. The company will use its existing overseas centrifugal chiller sales and service network to support the ETI-W series.

The ETI-W can also recover heat from chiller cooling water and reuse it for high-temperature water supply. Potential applications include data centers with continuous cooling-related waste heat, provided the temperature and quantity of available heat meet system requirements.
