Pelican Biothermal Opens San Diego Service Center

Pelican BioThermal, the global name in temperature controlled packaging, announces the February 15th grand opening of its first service center in southern California, located in San Diego. The new facility will service reusable Crēdo Cube parcel shippers, including refurbishment and repair.  It will also serve as an additional network station for the company’s rapidly expanding Crēdo on Demand rental program, which offers a high performance, flexible rental option for temperature controlled pallet shippers, with global reach.

“San Diego’s growing life sciences cluster makes this location a natural fit for our next service center,” said Dominic Hyde, vice president of Crēdo on Demand. “Given all the biotechnology research and development happening in and around southern California right now, a new service center in this location not only provides enormous benefit to current customers, but also other companies looking to safely transport biologics and other temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals through this location in the future.”

The facility opening in San Diego is the first of 12 new  Credo on Demand network station openings slated for 2018. Other key locations include Tokyo, Seoul, Basel, Dublin, Toronto, Frankfurt,Tel Aviv, Indianapolis and others to be named later. The company also plans to launch over 50 drop points in the next few months, for end of rental drop-off of their passive temperature controlled containers (including Crēdo Cargo and Crēdo Xtreme) at new locations spanning Europe, Asia and the Americas.

In addition to serving as a network station for the company’s Crēdo on Demand rental program, the new San Diego service center will provide a variety of options for Pelican BioThermal customers, including optional conditioning and end of rental drop-off. The new location complements the existing and expanding network stations servicing key hubs for pharmaceutical manufacturing and transfer activities and is available to customers worldwide.

Case Study – Effect of Louvers or diffusers on air flow distribution and cooling time on a meat log during Chill cycle

By Kushal Aurangabadkar An experimental analysis was conducted on a cooler space measuring 3.66 m × 6.096 m (12.0 ft × 20.0 ft), equipped with an ammonia refrigeration coil, five 30 cm (12 in.) fans, and five diffusers. The study measured airflow patterns, cooling rates, and heat transfer efficiency in meat storage by testing two configurations:

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for Modular Refrigeration Systems in Life Sciences Distribution Centers

by Ramez Naguib, P.E. Introduction Life sciences distribution centers are under immense pressure to deliver consistent temperature control, comply with increasingly stringent regulations, and optimize operational efficiency. Traditional built-up refrigeration systems often prove cumbersome, costly, and slow to implement. In contrast, modular, factory-assembled refrigeration systems have emerged as a compelling alternative. Drawing on lessons from
