LG Partners with GS E&C and GRC to Develop AI Data Center Immersion Cooling

LG Electronics has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C) and US-based immersion cooling specialist Green Revolution Cooling (GRC) to jointly develop immersion cooling technology and standardized designs for AI data centers. The agreement was signed on October 13, 2026.

The three companies will verify the practical applicability and reliability of immersion cooling technology for high-performance AI data centers. They will also develop integrated solutions and standardized designs for data centers incorporating immersion cooling systems.

Immersion cooling involves submerging electronic components, including GPUs and CPUs, directly in a specialized electrically non-conductive cooling fluid to remove heat. Implementing this technology in data centers requires coordinated planning of cooling equipment, building structures, piping, electrical infrastructure, and maintenance space.

Under the agreement, LG Electronics will provide its air cooling, liquid cooling, and immersion cooling technologies, along with operational data, and develop a cooling solutions portfolio based on the standardized designs. GS E&C will prepare standardized architectural designs and operate a proof-of-concept (PoC) testbed to validate equipment placement, structural loads, piping, and electrical connections. GRC will supply immersion tanks and control technologies and contribute to system performance improvements using installation, operation, and maintenance data.

LG Electronics currently offers air cooling solutions based on high-efficiency chillers and fan wall units (FWUs), as well as liquid cooling solutions incorporating coolant distribution units (CDUs) and cold plates. The collaboration is intended to validate immersion cooling performance and reliability while expanding the company’s cooling portfolio for AI data centers.

Oh Se-ki, Vice President and Head of LG Electronics’ ES Research Institute, said the company would continue researching and developing high-performance, high-efficiency cooling solutions to gain an early position in the rapidly growing AI data center cooling solutions market.
