Carrier launches [R]eCool trailer battery system across Europe

Carrier Transicold has launched [R]eCool, a 38.5-kWh battery system designed to power electric or hybrid trailer transport refrigeration units. The system is commercially available across Europe for new trailer installations and as a retrofit for existing Vector HE, Vector and compatible third-party units.

The plug-in system supports diesel-free refrigeration operation in low-emission zones and hybrid operation on longer routes. Carrier said the battery has a lifespan of up to 16 years and can be transferred between vehicles as fleet requirements change.

After transport use, the battery can be repurposed for stationary energy applications, including warehouse energy management. [R]eCool uses power electronics and energy management technology from Addvolt, a Portuguese transport electrification company acquired by Carrier in 2025.

Carrier said the system is supported by more than 800 Carrier Transicold service centers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It can also be combined with Lynx Fleet for data-driven optimization and BluEdge service contracts.

“[R]eCool evolves with the fleet, from retrofit to redeployment to reuse, so operators invest once and capture value across multiple asset lifecycles,” said Victor Calvo, Vice President & General Manager, International Truck Trailer, Carrier Transicold. “That’s the shift our customers are asking for: electrification that doesn’t expire when a trailer does.”
